How to set up Electricity Account in British Columbia, Canada (BC Hydro)

If you plan to move or just moved to British Columbia, you probably need to set up an account for your electricity services. The service is provided by BC Hydro. To set up your service, you'll need:
  1. your move in and move out dates for each address. 
  2. your new address. 
  3. Phone number so that BC Hydro can reach you. 
  4. If you’re renting, your landlord’s name and phone number.

Step 1

Create a MyHydro profile
Click sign up to create a MyHydro profile, which will allow you to manage your BC Hydro account online. If you already use MyHydro and need to open another BC Hydro account, you can log in and open a new account with your existing profile.

Log in and select "Open a new residential account".

You’ll need your new address, phone number, and your landlord’s name and contact information (if you’re renting).

There is a $12.40 + GST charge for all new accounts and moves. This charge will appear on your first BC Hydro bill. Some accounts may also require a security deposit.
